Gabe Saporta

Gabriel Eduardo "Gabe" Saporta is an American musician and entrepreneur. Through late 2015, he was a singer and the primary creative force behind the electronic pop group Cobra Starship. On November 10, 2015, after nearly ten years and two Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits, Gabe announced that the band would stop its work, and that he would be focussing on helping other musicians through his new venture, The Artist Group. Prior to Cobra Starship, Saporta had been the lead singer, bassist, and lyricist for the punk band Midtown.
==Early life==
Gabe Saporta was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. When he was four years old, he moved with his parents to New York City. Saporta's father, Diego Saporta, studied medicine and became a physician in Montevideo. Disenchanted with the then-ineffective and somewhat corrupt health care system in Uruguay, among other reasons, the elder Saporta elected to leave the country with his family in the early 1980s. As a result, he undertook his medical training for a second time in the United States.
Gabe Saporta developed an interest in music at an early age; this had crystallized by the time he was eight years old. In the late 1970s, Saporta's family moved to the New Jersey suburb of Springfield, New Jersey.〔〔Lustig, Jay. "Cobra Starship flies with 'Snakes on a Plane'.", ''The Star-Ledger'', December 15, 2006. "With his new band, Cobra Starship, former Springfield resident Gabe Saporta was able to get one of his songs accepted for the soundtrack of the movie ''Snakes on a Plane.''"〕 Saporta attended the Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union in nearby Cranford, New Jersey.〔()〕 Saporta was greatly influenced by hip hop music and later discovered an affinity towards punk and hardcore punk, listening to bands such as Gorilla Biscuits, NOFX and Lagwagon. These bands influenced him greatly, and as a teenager, he adopted a straight edge lifestyle.
Of his teenage years, Saporta recalled, "I was pretty much just as obnoxious as I am now, but louder. I went against the grain a little bit, and you always get in trouble when you do that...Teachers hated me."〔 He and his friends formed a band and performed locally.〔 The concerts grew in popularity in his small town, until about 500 people would attend each week. Saporta then joined another band, Humble Beginnings. Saporta attended Rutgers University, where he majored in philosophy.〔
